Who was Henry Snider? By Ron Romig and Mike Riggs, 11-2-2003
Drusilla Hendricks describes Mr. Snider, "I saw a Mr. T. [Henry?] Snider [Snyder] (he did not belong to the church, but [was] a good man) get off his horse at the gate. (I saw him wipe his eyes, I knew that he was crying.) He came to the door and said, Mr. Hendricks wishes you to come to him. I asked where. He said to the widow Medcalf's and that he had come for me. I asked where and how he was shot and he thought he was shot..." [Historical Sketch of James Hendricks and Drusilla Dorris Hendricks; http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~raymondfamily/ddorris5.htm].
Original land entry records for Caldwell County indicate that a Henry Snyder [Snider] owned 120 acres of land in the Log Creek/Rich Settlement. His land was located right along the road from Far West to Richmond. His home or one nearby would have been a logical place for the Crooked River company to stop on their way home from the battle.
If Mr. Snider wasn't a Mormon, he must have been related to or living with someone that was. Does anyone know who was Mr. Snider's wife?

We find the best clues about Mr. Snider, in a biography about his son, Jacob H. Snider (Farmer, Section 1, Post-office, Hamilton, [Caldwell County, Missouri]. "In endeavoring to trace the genealogy of Mr. Snider, we find that his ancestors came originally from Germany.... His father became a resident of Indiana in 1821, and it was in that State that Jacob was born January 13, 1835. He moved from there in 1836 to Caldwell county, Mo., and in 1838 went to Adams county, Ill., thence into Lee county, Ia., in 1845, and from thence to Andrew county, Mo., in 1847, then in 1851 to Caldwell county, Mo." [History of Caldwell and Livingston Counties, Missouri, 307]. Three of Henry Snider's children joined the RLDS Church in later years.
