MMFF Markers

Over recent years, MMFF has received many generous contributions to the MMFF Marker Fund. This has allowed MMFF to focus its attention on the the placement of commemorative markers at a number of unmarked sites. Thanks to all who have assisted in the following marker projects:

Julia Murdock Smith Dixon Middleton Grave, Forthcoming, Julia Murdock Smith Dixon Middleton Grave, Nauvoo, Illiniois, August 2003

Brooklyn Passengers Marker at Emily Bartholomew's Grave, Sunday, 28 September 2003, 1:00 p.m., Mound Grove Cemetery, Independence, Missouri

Speaker: Newel Bringhurst

The story of Emily Hopkins Bartholomew has appeared in a previous issue of the MMFF newsletter. A metal plaque, like the others for the Ship Brooklyn Passengers, arrived long ago to attach to her gravestone. The plan was to glue it to the surface of the existing stone. The original stone is small and rested directly on the ground- there was not enough room for the plaque above the grass level. MMFF had Johnson and Sons incise the plaque into the headstone and to put a stone base under the original stone to put it above lawn mower level.
Donations are still being received to pay for the base and resetting work. The commemorative dedication will be held, Sunday, 28 September 2003, 1:00 p.m., at Mound Grove Cemetery, Independence, Missouri. It will be a small ceremony open to the interested public. This is another chance for you to be involved.
